Sparrow Avenue

Barbara Di Lella

Since almost forever I have been drawn to the process of aging: from the weathered and layered flaking paint on old wood to the faded and yellowed pages of time-worn books.  I am intrigued by the past, the secrets of history and the hidden stories within people and objects that have lived before I was born.

The images, colours and textures I choose are derived from the part of me that has no thought.  They are compilations of what I've seen in places near and far, in times from as recent as today to someone else's memories.  I watch and listen and collect all of it and it incubates, sometimes for a day, sometimes for years.  But eventually it resurfaces in my art in unpredictable ways.
